$18.1M FOR LAND THAT SOLD FOR $8.9M

The seller paid $8.9 million in 2024. Two years later Neunder and Smith voted yes to pay $18.1 million — and borrow $20.77 million to do it. Knight voted no.

The story

The Herald-Tribune reported that Sarasota County commissioners approved the $18.1 million purchase of a 2.04-acre waterfront parcel at 1500 Stickney Point Road, borrowing $20.77 million through a pooled commercial-paper program. Commissioner Tom Knight, who had opposed the deal earlier, was the lone dissenter on the May 5 votes. The prices and 4-1 roll call are on the public record.
